Welcome to Alameda County Health, Environmental Health Department (ACEHD), Environmental Protection Division. This site is designed to assist the public with finding resources and answering questions related to food safety and safe recreational swimming. This site may be used to file a food-borne illness complaint, a general food or recreational swimming complaint, search for inspection results, and learn how to obtain a permit to operate. It is our mission to protect the health, safety and well-being of the public through the promotion of environmental quality.

Caterer / Host / Temporary Food Service Operation (TFSO)

A Caterer / Host operation prepares food at a permitted facility for offsite events, excluding take-out and community event participation. TFSOs allow those without a retail food facility to gain experience and test production of menu items.

Certified Farmers Market (CFM) Program

A Certified Farmers’ Market is defined as a retail food facility and requires an ACEHD permit to operate.

Community Events and Temporary Food Facilities

California Health and Safety Code (CALCODE) requires Community Event Sponsors and Temporary Food Facilities (TFF) to obtain an Alameda County Environmental Health Department (ACEHD) permit to operate.

Food Safety

We monitor all retail food facilities in the county (excluding the City of Berkeley) to ensure a safe and wholesome food supply for the public

Support and regulation of home-based/cottage food businesses operating in Alameda County

Mobile Food Facilities Program
