Welcome to the Hazardous Materials Division.

The Alameda County Environmental Health Department (ACEHD) coordinates and enforces numerous local, state, and federal hazardous materials management and environmental protection programs in the county.

As the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), the Hazardous Materials Division implements the following programs:

  • Hazardous Materials Business Plan
  • Hazardous Waste Generator
  • Underground Storage Tank
  • Aboveground Petroleum Storage Act
  • California Accidental Release Prevention

The ACEHD CUPA has jurisdiction in the cities of Alameda, Albany, Castro Valley, Dublin, Emeryville, Newark, Oakland, Piedmont, San Lorenzo, Sunol; the unincorporated areas of Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton and San Leandro; and parts of Byron, Mountain House, and Tracy.

In addition, the Hazardous Materials Division also administers the Clean Water and Waste Tire programs.
