LPS Designated Facilities are mental health treatment facilities that are designated by the county for evaluation and treatment, approved by the State Department of Health Care Services, and licensed as a health facility or certified by the State Department of Health Care Services to provide mental health treatment.
The County Mental Health Director, as authorized by the Board of Supervisors, is the sole authority for designating Mental Health Professionals to initiate 72-hour psychiatric detentions.
The County Mental Health Director, along with the ACBHD Crisis Services System of Care, will determine which service sites are eligible to have staff designated for the placement of involuntary psychiatric holds (5150/5585). Alameda County recognizes two levels of LPS designation:
- Category I Full Designation for 5150/5585 evaluation & treatment facilities.
- Category II Professional Designation for individuals working in facilities or teams that provide 5150/5585 evaluation and transportation to a Level I Facility.
