Program Details

The Health Equity Policy and Systems (HEPS) Unit was established in February 2023. The purpose of this unit is to advance health equity in the behavioral health outcomes of marginalized communities via policy and systems change throughout Alameda County .

Values:

  • Advancing health equity policies, procedures and systems is essential for a thriving, healthy, resilient community.
  • Systems need to be improved: To address inequities and gaps in disparate outcomes, systems including policies, practices and procedures need to be aligned with community/client needs
  • Values based approach is crucial: Centering i)Cultural Humility ii) Trauma informed systems iii) Belonging and Social Inclusion

Priorities:

  • Utilize behavioral health data to inform policies, practices and procedures
  • Alignment and support of departmental priorities and regulatory requirements
  • Increase staff awareness on policy matters
  • Strengthen and honor partnerships to assist in updating, developing, and implementing policies, practices and procedures
