Prevention and early intervention can reduce the impact of substance use in Alameda County. Prevention activities work to educate and support individuals and communities to prevent the use and misuse of drugs and the development of substance use disorders. Preventing mental and/or substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders and related problems is critical to improving behavioral and physical health.

A trained substance use counselor will ask you some questions about your experience with drugs and alcohol, and then make a referral to the most appropriate program. The process takes about 20 minutes.
