How to Make a Referral or Seek Services
First Step serves clients of all ages who have Medi-Cal or are underinsured or not insured and who have mental health and substance use care needs.
When you call First Step, you’ll speak directly with a licensed clinician trained in both mental health and substance use. They’ll take the time to listen and understand your situation to help connect you with the right services. One call, one conversation, one clear next step.
First Step is for screening and referrals, not crisis services. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or 911 for immediate help.
