Services CCS Covers

Clients who apply and are approved for CCS can get many services paid for by CCS. CCS nurse case managers work with clients’ doctors to get the services approved or authorized. CCS is not a health insurance program. However, CCS covers services that are not otherwise covered by Medi-Cal or private insurance.

Types of Services Covered by CCS

Each eligible child or youth is assigned a nurse case manager. They can help you find medical services and make sure eligible services are paid for. All services, except emergencies, must receive prior authorization. These services may include:

  • Hospital care and doctor appointments.
  • X-ray and lab services (for example, blood tests).
  • Medical supplies and equipment (for example, wheelchairs).
  • Medications to treat the condition.
  • Home health care.
  • Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy.
  • In some cases, Orthodontic care.
  • Confidential HIV Testing and Monitoring Program for children and youth who are at risk for AIDS.
  • Palliative Care.
  • Help with transportation to get to appointments.
  • Diagnostic Services for children and youth when a doctor thinks they may have a CCS-eligible condition.
  • High-Risk Infant Follow-Up Program for certain medically fragile infants.

Each time the child or youth needs to see a new doctor, get new medication, or equipment, a Service Authorization Request form (SAR) needs to be completed.  The medical provider will fill out the SAR and send it to CCS.  You will be notified by mail when the services have been approved.  You can contact CCS to find out the status of a SAR.
