Public Health Nursing Programs

The Public Health Nursing (PHN) Division provides a wide range of community‑focused programs designed to protect health, promote safety, and support the well‑being of Alameda County residents. Through specialized nursing units and coordinated public health services, the division strengthens partnerships with individuals, families, and community agencies to ensure compassionate, culturally responsive, and evidence‑informed care.

The PHN Division includes several key programs and service units: the Adult Protective Services (APS) Nursing Unit, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Nursing Unit, the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Nursing Unit, the Front Door Program, and the Public Health Safety and Nursing Education (PHSNE) Unit. While each program has a distinct role in serving the community, together they support the division’s commitment to health equity, safety, and improved outcomes for vulnerable populations. Nursing units deliver direct PHN services, while programs such as the Front Door Program provide essential access, navigation, and coordination support that enhance the work of PHNs, Social Workers, and other service providers across the system.
